GLYNCORRWYG PONDS

On the edge of Afan Forest Park within the heart of mountainous scenery containing the narrow, winding Corrwg Valley, are the Glyncorrwg Ponds - a series of artificial lakes on the site of what were once spoil tips of a coal mine. The last mine closed in 1970 and the area has been transformed by the local community with a the series of ponds created, transforming it into place for recreation rich in wildlife, where you are likely to see buzzards, heron, sandpiper, dragonfly and a variety of wildflowers.

You can stroll around the ponds or enjoy a selection of waymarked trails further afield; or go fishing, hire a mountain bike with a choice of world-class trails to test your skill. There is a Visitor Centre with café, picnic area, toilets.

Glyncorrwg is reached by shuttle bus from Cymmer, a fascinating area of industrial heritage, including the Refreshment Rooms, now a pub and restaurant in the former station buildings, with toilets and small interpretive area.
